The Battle of Verdun became the most prolonged battle in modern history and took place in 21 February-15 December 1916. This battle was planned by the Erich Von Falkenhayn, who was the German Chief of General staff and its aim to achieve victory for Germany. The other goal was to destroy the French army before the allies had become powerful through the exploitation of Britishers. However, without the ninety-six divisions of France, the Allies would be not in a position to continue fighting in the west.

Verdun had 60 forts in which twenty-two were significant, and thirty-eight were smaller approximately. That time, these forts had been used to protect the eastern border of France.

Frances had pride in those forts, and if the forts destroy, then they would face national dishonor. It was a smart plan of Von Falkehyan because he knew that the citizen of France would do anything to protect their pride. However, his program works, and France would lose several soldiers to defend their dignity.

Everything has two aspects, such as weakness and strength. Similarly, Falkenhayn’s smart plan had one weak point that would change history. However, Germany thought France was a weak enemy and that they would suffer the most through the number of deads. Moreover, the positive of Falkenhayn’s plan convert into the contrary program. For example, the authority of all the minor and significant forts of France that Germany targeted for bombs had been sent to the Western Front.

The Battle:

The attack was started by Germans, and 145,000 troops take part in this battle. In the region of Verdun, the soldiers had 1,000 artillery guns that were prepared after so many trials. The air force of German also gave some extra firepower as they had in the office. On the other side, the France army only had 35,000 troops to fight against the German forces. The Aftermath-Battle Of Verdun:

The excessive number of people has experienced the casualties in this battle. Reference books that contain the history of the fight offer different statistics on the number of victims. An accurate figure will never be found. It approximates that the German lost nearly 345,000 and the French lots over 365,000 in the battle.
