Before the onset of World War 1, the world had not seen any major conflict which had death and destruction on such a massive scale. World War 1 changed global history in many ways. There were a number of international tensions at the time. They led to the beginning of World War 1. These reasons were the cause of some minor skirmishes in Europe before the great war. Still, one particular incident which triggered the war was the assassination of the Archduke of Austria, Franz Ferdinand, by a Bosnian Serb during his visit to Sarajevo.

The New Form Of Warfare Not Witnessed Ever Before:

World War 1 was vastly different from all the major wars fought earlier. One of the main reasons why this happened was because all the major global powers were involved in this war on opposite sides. A lot of technological advancements made ways in the war, which had devastating outcomes. Trench warfare had become the norm for the fight to counter the vast number of guns and artillery that soldiers used. Machine guns were one of the most advanced technologies used in this war to help with trench warfare.

A lot of new technologies made their way in World War 1. Some of these had a tremendous impact on the outcome of the battles. Armored vehicles or tanks were used for the first time. The advent of aerial warfare also happened during World War 1. For the first time, biological weapons like poison gases were used to kill soldiers waiting in the trenches. German U-Boats also made way for the first time, and this would lead to the development of submarines when the war finally ended. These technologies were all first used in World War 1, but after the war, they were much developed and were made more potent and dangerous.

Notable Battles:

When you read about WWI, you will learn that a lot of great battles took place, and some of them were extremely deadly. Moreover, some of the most infamous battles include the Somme, the Battle of Gallipoli, and the Battle of Ypres. In spite of the widespread devastation, World War 1 could not resolve a lot of European tensions, and all of these culminated in creating the reasons for World War 2 almost twenty years later.

World War 1 will always be one of the most important events of the 20th century because it was the first war that involved all of the major global powers. There are a lot of things which people can learn from WW I like how big empires fell because of popular pressure, the futile nature of treaties and conquests, and how unjust laws can conquer people’s emotions.
